From soil to cup - the bbcc story

In 1989, Annie, Franco, and their children left behind the bustle of Sydney for the rolling hills of Byron Bay's hinterland. On twelve acres of rich earth, they planted coffee trees one by one, picked coffee cherries under the sun, processed and then roasted on a little 10-kilo Greek roaster that Franco had tweaked until it ran just right. Life on the farm was tough but honest.

Franco poured himself into the craft of roasting and blending, chasing flavour and consistency with a roaster's patience. Annie made sure their coffee found its way out into the world, spreading the word, keeping the wheels turning, and delivering to cafes and retailers with her trademark and drive.

Byron Bay Coffee Company grew beyond the farm. They went from harvesting their own beans to carefully sourcing some of the best green bean from around the world, always roasted here in the Byron hinterland. Annie's determination to get their name out there, paired with Franco's skill behind the scenes, laid the foundation for everything Byron Bay Coffee Company is today.

Today, Byron Bay Coffee Company is an independent roastery supplying cafes and retailers across Australia and Japan. The scale may be bigger, the roaster may be Italian and 60-kilo strong, but our roots remain the same: family, hard work, respect for the land, and a deep love for premium coffee.

With over 30 years of roasting experience, Franco leads the craft of bringing out the full flavour and character of each bean through careful trials and perfected roast profiles. We carefully source the highest quality Arabica beans from the world's best coffee-growing regions and blend them, so their unique qualities compliment each other, creating balanced, full-bodied, and complex flavours.
